Brief Biography
Sunita Patel is the Deputy Assistant National Cyber Director for Technology Security at the White House. In her role, Sunita leads and collaborates on policy and strategy efforts to secure present and future technology, including supply chain risk management, data privacy, and developing secure emerging technology. Sunita is a firm believer in bringing together people, doctrine, and technology in order to create the world we want and need to live in.
Sunita joined the Office of the National Cyber Director after serving at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where she most recently held the role of Chief Counsel to several of the agency’s components, including the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, the Election Threats Executive, and the Economic Threat and Financial Intelligence Threat Executive. In this capacity, she led a team of attorneys in supporting U.S. counterintelligence and security activities including personnel security, Information and Communications Technology, and Services supply chain risk management, election security, and data privacy. Prior to this position, Sunita provided legal counsel to the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer, and the Intelligence Community Chief Data Officer on a variety of cyber issues and initiatives affecting the Intelligence Community’s mission space, and to the National Counterterrorism Center on terrorism information sharing matters. Before joining the ODNI, Sunita provided legal support to the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on immigration and terrorism topics.
Sunita’s professional achievements have earned her recognition from several departments and agencies, and include receipt of the Director of National Intelligence’s National Intelligence Community Award in 2020 for leading Intelligence Community attorneys in the development and implementation of
federal supply chain risk management laws and policies.
Sunita holds a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine, a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/U.S. by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
