Gordon Kohse has been the Managing Director for Operations of the MIT Nuclear Reactor Laboratory since July 2019, working with Science and Technology Director Jacopo Buongiorno and Business Development Director Lance Snead. Gordon oversees the reactor operations group and the irradiation engineering group. Before joining the management team, he worked at the NRL in a variety of roles related mainly to in-core experiment design, operation, and analysis dating back to 1984. He has expertise in design and implementation of in-core experiments, LWR coolant chemistry, neutron effects in materials, advanced LWR clad and fuel testing, and testing of irradiation hardened sensors for in-core applications. Gordon is also deeply involved in education, training and public outreach around issues of nuclear technology and clean energy. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary (1978) and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from MIT (1983) with a thesis on an integrated irradiation experiment for fusion first wall materials.
