The Engine
The Engine is an early-stage venture firm conceived and created by MIT to address the unmet need for sustained support for startups with the potential to solve complex, existential challenges and make material, positive impact on society. Propelled out of MIT in 2016, and independently managed and operated, The Engine was designed as an “innovation orchard” where Tough Tech founders received the capital, knowledge, network connections and access to specialized equipment they needed to develop and commercialize foundational, disruptive technology. The Engine’s focus on world positive capitalism eliminates the boundaries of innovation and serves as a catalyst for new fields, enabling our founders to drive meaningful forward progress for the world.

Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions
The Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI) is one of the National Science Foundation's inaugural AI research institutes, involving investigators from MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Tufts. Working at the intersection of AI and fundamental physics, the IAIFI will advance physics knowledge from the smallest building blocks of nature to the largest structures in the Universe and galvanize AI research innovation.
