Brief Biography
Xuedong Huang is a Microsoft Technical Fellow and the Chief Technology Officer, overseeing Azure AI Cognitive Services engineering and research.

In 1993, Xuedong joined Microsoft to establish the company's speech technology group, where he led Microsoft’s spoken language efforts for over two decades. In addition to bringing speech recognition to the mass market, Xuedong led his team in achieving several recent historical human parity milestones in speech recognition, machine translation, conversational question answering, and image captioning. Xuedong’s team develops Azure AI Cognitive Services and powers popular applications from Microsoft, like Office 365, Dynamics, Xbox, and Teams, to numerous 3rd party services and applications.

Xuedong was named Asian American Engineer of the Year (2011), Wired Magazine's 25 Geniuses (2016), and AI World's Top 10 (2017). He is a recipient of the Alan Newell Medal. Huang holds over 170 US patents and has published over 100 papers and 2 books. Xuedong is an IEEE & ACM fellow.
